The selections were made to include all professors, 'hospital physicians and surgeons, Officers of the more important medical societies and authors, together with those who by length Of service Or success in the profession had become of eminence. No effort or expense has. Been spared to secure complete sketches, and Where any appear incomplete, or are absent, the fault does not lie with-the editor or publisher. We therefore do not claim that the book is complete, but We, do claim that it is an earnest effort to supply the profession with a complete review of the real workers in the profession, and of the work they have done for it. There were a very few who blindly adhered to a prejudice. Against the publication of biographies of the living to these, we believe the book in its matter and manner is a complete reply.
