We believe that the United States Army regulations allow for hos pitale one thousand cubic feet of ventilated space for each indi vidual. On ships this Space is necessarily much contracted; but we must remember that at sea a high per cent. Of carbonic acid gas is unknown, and also that the air is almost destitute of micro organisms. When not exceeding the normal quantity in the atmosphere, C 02 is probably innocuous, but, like dog Tray, it is always found in bad company, generally with the gases of putrefaction, so that even minute changes in the quantity of this gas may be indicative of momentous consequences.
