Follows the course of the civil war in Kerry in July & August.With notes on the brief period of confrontation when Free State troops were all but surrounded in their Barracks, through the innovative and successful invasion from the sea by Free State forces under Emmet Dalton that caught the Republican forces almost completely by surprise. Brings the war up to the end of the first phase in August 1922, when Free State victory seemed assured, and before the Republican response to their predicament.

Author Biography

Gabriel Doherty teaches in the Department of History, University College Cork. He received his BA in Modern History from Oxford University, having studied at Magdalen College between 1986 and 1989.
