There is true philosophy in making books for children outwardly attractive, wrote the late Bishop Bowman when strongly recommending that this should not be forgotten even in the cheap edition. There is no doubt but that in being given a sensible importance, 8 book of this character would increase in spiritual influence. However, it has been thought best, in order to bring it within the reach of all, to diminish its size and cost by taking out the portions relating to the private Christian life of the child, and to readmit them in another issue to accompany this. For the same reason, although beauty of typography has been cared for, nearly all other ornament in printing and binding has been omitted. In its present form it goes before the Church for trial on its intrinsic merits alone, and may the blessing of God go with it.
