Sovereign mercy, because having sinned, the law demands their punishment, and if they receive mercy instead, it will be because the King, by an act of sovereignty, sets aside the law and lifts the penalty. Unconditional election, because having sinned, none can do anything to atone for the past or bring God under obligation to save.
