Description

UFOs, demented tree trunks, deep-space missions and more set the foundation for horror and emotion in this debut collection of stories. An inscrutable mission takes a group of souls to the edge of the solar system, some for redemption, others for power unimaginable; a tavern, patronized by the gritty and black-hearted, is breached by an unexpected guest; in the midst of existential turmoil, a girl finds her way to her own imagination as darkness sets in; peer pressure and a thirst for understanding compel a neighborhood boy to retread the horrors of his past and return to the sanctuary of his nightmares; the last of his tribe, a man barters with powers unknown to bring back the life of his granddaughter; in the wake of abuse, a young girl pleads with her angels for salvation only to finally meet them face-to-face; an old soul, wrought with the echoes of heartache, suffers the twentieth anniversary of his retreat from the world in which he'd lost everything. "My overall feelings are that this is a great collection of stories in a very strong book. There is no room for chaff in this mill! Anderson's writing is his own, but you could make comparisons to H.P. Lovecraft in his love for detail and the slowly mounting terror in his stories. There is also a good deal of science fiction in the mix that might make one think of Ray Bradbury for the humanity and Michael Crichton for the tech end of things. The opening story 'The Further We Soar Into Madness' demonstrates this mesh quite well." -Brian J. Lewis, Horror Review "Full of emotion and characters that mean something, there is more to these tales than just the novelty splat of blood and spooky ghosts that you'd expect from horror, and the impeccably written plot to each one stretches your mind to the capability of these worlds and true terror found within humans." -Chloe Magic, chloeemagic.wordpress.com On "The Gore Hole" "I enjoyed Jordan Anderson's story, which was reminiscent of tales like SK's 'It, ' and J.J. Abrams' 'Super 8.' The slow build of kids exploring an unknown terror will always reel me in..." -Chris Carmen, Fiction on the Web On "Angelic Tendencies" "A very well written story that sees the world through the complicated and [inexplicable] view point of a child, a challenge to any writer. Jordan pulled it off. But ominous, indeed." -Jerome, Fiction on the Web "A compelling story that has the courage to brave heart breaking and disturbing terrain with sensitivity and empathy for the child's point of view. Thank you." -Ceinwen, Fiction on the Web "Gorgeous piece of work, with a MOST satisfying conclusion!" -Sinead McCabe, Fiction on the Web
