The Union's policy statement on the polygraph was adopted in 1954 and reads in part No person may be required, by moral or legal compulsion, to submit to a lie detector test. The alleged lie detector, at least at this stage of its development, is not ready to be compulsorily administered, in view of the lack of a sufficient number Of experts to administer tests and interpret the results, the temperamental unsuitability of many subjects, and the fact that an habitual or pathological liar might pass the test even if he is guilty.
