The original and without a doubt the best version of H.G.Wells “War Of The Worlds” you will ever see. Made in 1956 this was a groundbreaking movie for its day, the martian machines even today look as awesome as they must have done back in 1956.
This has also been a movie that for years has been long awaited for a Bluray release and believe me the wait was well worth it. The film has been completely restored to its original glory with a completely remixed 5.1 DTS H.D Master soundtrack created by Star Wars soundman Ben Burtt himself. For much of the movie the soundtrack is very much in the centre of your soundstage but believe me, once the action starts and the Martians emerge and begin their attacks your soundstage will explode from every speaker when the cylinder first opens and the Martians heat ray emerges from within the sound of the heat ray moves completely around your soundstage as the heat ray turns itself from back to front, there is plenty of low-frequency effects that your sub will appreciate and as with the opening titles, the movie begins sounding in mono and then suddenly as the movies the main theme starts your soundstage simply opens up, it's a remarkable sounding film considering its age and how the film was originally recorded back in 1956.
There is another version of the movie available from The Criterion Collection in a region A format only however this is the exact transfer that Criterion used so the get the film in a region B format is such a bonus. If your a fan of classic cinema then “War Of The Worlds” 1956 on Imprint Bluray is a must-have with plenty of bonus extras to keep you entertained.
They simply don't make movies like this anymore.
