The other charac ters are likewise creatures of fancy, but they are types of the Indian at his best and his worst. There is current a tradition of a pinto medicine pony, also of two war parties that started out on horse-stealing expedi tions, the soldiers of each of which be came faint-hearted and deserted one by one, until the two leaders stood face to face alone, and fought somewhere near the summit of the Rocky Mountains.
