John Stone is Professor of Sociology at Boston University.Born in London and educated at the Universities of Cambridge andOxford, his research interests in the field of race relationsstarted with a chance visit to apartheid South Africa in the 1960s.This developed into a lifelong career researching race, ethnicityand nationalism around the world. He was the Founding Editor of Ethnic and Racial Studies and has written numerousbooks and articles on the subject including RacialConflict in Global Society (Polity, 2014), which he co-authoredwith Polly S. Rizova. Dennis M. Rutledge is Professor of Sociology andAnthropology at George Mason University. A Recipient of The JosephS. Himes Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of BlackSociologists and The Du Bois-Johnson-Frazier Award from TheAmerican Sociological Association, he is the author, co-author,editor and co-editor of thirteen books, including Race andEthnicity: Comparative Theoretical Approaches (Wiley, 2003)with John Stone. He is a past President of the Association of BlackSociologists and formerly Editor of Elsevier s Series onResearch in Race and Ethnic Relations. Anthony D. Smith is Professor Emeritus of Nationalism andEthnicity at the London School of Economics, Honorary President ofthe Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism,and the Founding Editor of the journal Nations andNationalism. Among his many books in this fieldare TheEthnic Origins of Nations (Wiley, 1987); Nations andNationalism in a Global Era (Polity, 1995); Ethnosymbolismand Nationalism (Routledge, 2009) and The Nation madeReal (Oxford 2013). Polly S. Rizova is Associate Professor of Management atWillamette University s Atkinson GSM. Her research interestsare in the areas of management of technological innovation, theeffect of social networks on group and organizational performance,and in the study of Race and Ethnic relations and organizationaldiversity. She is the author of The Secret of Success: TheDouble Helix of Formal and Informal Structures in a R&DLaboratory (Stanford UP, 2007) and co-author of RacialConflict in Global Society (Polity, 2014) with John Stone. Xiaoshuo Hou is Assistant Professor of Sociology at St.Lawrence University. Her research and teaching interests includeeconomic sociology, development sociology, and organizationalsociology with a particular focus on Asia. She is the author of Community Capitalism in China: The State, the Market, andCollectivism (Cambridge UP, 2013) as well as articles publishedin Theory, Culture & Society, Theory &Society, Journal of Asian Studies and several other peerreviewed journals.
