I must ask the indulgence of readers for the long interval that has elapsed between the two. The Great War, the death of some of the contributors before their translations were completed, the necessity for a considerable interchange of views between translators and editor, - these have been among the causes of delay. I hope that by delay something has been gained as well as something lost; I am conscious of realizing much more fully now than I did in 1908 the nature of the problem of translating Aristotle, and I hope that the later contributors have learned something from the work of their predecessors. In the series as a whole, indexes have been placed some times after single works, sometimes after groups of works.
