Excerpt from The Young Christian's Prayer and Expectation: A Sermon Preached in the Parish Church of St. Peter, Colchester, on Sunday Evening, August 18, 1833 There is, however, one character who seeks aright. The penitent seeks to be satisfied with the Divine mercy. He includes all other blessings in that one gift, - mercy. He pours out the whole de sire of his heart in that one prayer, God be merciful to me a sinner. And if he can obtain that, it is enough! For the pre sent he is satisfied, for the future he can trust. And well he may, for if the Lord has mercy upon him, there is no other blessing, but what he will impart to him. This secures the pardon of all his sins, and the possession of all good. This betokens the Divine favour and love, the favour and love of Him, whose power and wisdom are infinite.
