Description

Thought, Experience, Sense: Cognitive Approaches to Enhanced Communication Competence gives readers a solid foundation in theories regarding cognitive influences on the interpersonal communication process. It also enhances understanding of how these theories can be practically applied. Readers will learn various measures of and perspectives on communicative competence. They will study the role of listening and the skill of audience adaptation. The material also includes information on framing, awareness, acquiring feedback, and avoiding perceptual errors. Specific topics include self-monitoring, cognitive load, message design logic, fundamental attribution error, and self-serving bias. Thought, Experience, Sense: Cognitive Approaches to Enhanced Communication Competence fills a gap in the discourse and makes much-needed information available to undergraduate students. It features diverse readings on the subject matter and uses case studies to bring the material to life. The anthology is an excellent reader for introductory and advanced interpersonal communication courses as well as classes in social psychology.
