Description

"Out, vile jelly-filled donut!" This is not your traditional Shakespearean play. After receiving input from her talented troupe of adolescent actors, the writer/director composed this collage of abridged and deranged Shakespearean classics to meet their demands. There is something in this play for everyone: romance, dueling, conspiracy, murder, fairies, marshmallows, a purple porta-potty, a popped-out eyeball, and plenty of GIRL PARTS! This collection includes a few of the bard's more obscure plays (Timon of Athens and Coriolanus) as well as his most popular (Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and King Lear). Queen Elizabeth the First makes an appearance, as do a superhero in undergarments and some geeky Star Wars wannabes. Three narrators guide the actors through their scenes, and there is some exciting and bloody audience participation as well. Forty-some body parts are referenced, making this comedy seriously appealing to the adolescent-minded, young and old. And somebody gets flushed away at the end! Flexible casting: 20-45 actors. Running time: 110-125 minutes. Performance rights sold separately.

Author Biography:

Katherine Tartaglia Dumont is an English teacher by trade and a writer by default. She started writing and directing plays for youth when her oldest son was five. (Somehow her troupe expanded and became teenagers, and now the actors are demanding more and more challenging parts!) Dumont majored in English and Russian Studies at St. Olaf College and received an MA in Education from the University of CO in Boulder. She lives with her family in beautiful Estes Park, CO, the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, where she enjoys spending time on the trails. She runs the Soggy Noodle Children's Theatre, serves as teen guide at the local library, and teaches classical/finger-style guitar.
