"Stealth Optional."

This Splinter Cell has a little bit of extra action than most of hte previous games. You have Fifth Freedom on all missions and only occasionally in single player do you have to run through without being detected. The first few missions fell like a training level to get you use to the new features of the game which to me is good as you can get to grips with the new dynamic while still playing a story driven level. The replayability of the levels is good too. You might go in the front door this time, next time go in through the upstairs window. Each choice has different outcomes based on who is partolling the different areas. For certain misson achievements you get given points to be able to cash in on upgrades for weapons and you can upgrade almost all weapons. Add a silencer to make kills stealthy, of add a bigger magazine to get more shots in, the choice is yours. All in all a good addition to the series with Sam Fisher being grizzlier than before and with a bigger grudge. When he gets word his daughter is killed in a car accident he goes all out to try to find what happened to her. This means he no longer follows Third Echelon protocols or the ‘rules’ he used to follow. Be aware, he no longer goes to the effort of simply knocking someone out, its kill or be killed for Sam.

I would rate the game better than Double Agent and slightly under Chaos Theory – then again I am a stealth perfectionist and this game has a lot less option in some cases.

"One of the BEST FPS I've ever played! Mark & Execute!"
5 stars"

I never thought much about Splinter Cell – to me it's always been just another stealth First Person Shooter (FPS). Until I gave Conviction a go. Boy was I hooked.

The story was engrossing, the gameplay was stylish, the graphics were serious. FPS is just an FPS unless it sports a unique feature that makes it stand out above the crowded FPS genre.

CRYSIS' suit did it for me. FEAR's slo-mo did it for me. And with Splinter Cell: Conviction, it's MARK & EXECUTE! Everytime I used this I literally cheered for Sam Fisher for a superbly fluid execution – execution in every way! This is truly the most innovative feature I've seen in any FPS.

While you could choose to go in with guns blazing, it's so much more fun going stealth with Mark & Execute – a feature that allows you to nail up to 4 enemies with deadly pinpoint accuracy – after you performed a melee attack that is. This is so that it doesn't make it so easy to complete each level.

Of course, the storyline was superbly engrossing and just draws you in the entire way. One of those games I wouldn't stop until I was done.

One of the most satisfying FPS games, EVER. Get it. Yes, it requires the internet connection, but for what it's worth, it's worth it. No complaints there.

"Fantastic game but not Splinter Cell."
4 stars"

There is no doubt that Splinter Cell Conviction is a superbly made game. The exciting action gameplay flows so smoothly into and out of cutscenes, making a very cinematic gaming experience. The brutality and efficiency of Sam Fisher is portrayed so well during the many gunfights. As an action game, it is flawless.

Unfortunately, this is a Splinter Cell game. Meaning it falls into the delicate ‘stealth action’ genre and because of this, it falls short. By my definition this is not a stealth game, the mechanics simply have not been built for stealth (slow) gameplay – you simply cannot play this game stealthily. You will not enjoy it if you do. The build-up to Conviction's release emphasised heavily the fast-pace of the game, showing shots of Sam Fisher running through streets dodging gunfire and firing his powerful assault rifle – which is very, very exciting. But it also proves that it is not a stealth game, if you did that in any other Splinter Cell game you would fail. Instantly. You can do plenty of other things too like shoot down massive containers hanging on a crane so they smash onto the floor; blow up tankers; or operate machine gun turrets; things which would automatically give away your position but what the hey, it's just so darn exciting right?

I know why they took this approach, and I accept it. It's a well needed reinvention of the franchice after the underwhelming Spinter Cell Double Agent. It is also a chance open Splinter Cell up to the general action game market, rather than the admittedly minor stealth action niche. It's impressive that they actually pulled it off. The game is superb at the end of the day. If this was a stand alone game it would get a deserved 5 stars, and I recommend it. But if you are a fan of Splinter Cell, do not play this expecting the gameplay you are used to. And if you are new to the series, then Conviction is a good place to start.

"Not quite Chaos Theory"
5 stars"

It has been dumbed down for console. PC version online match version is a joke. It simply does not work. Co-op LAN is stable enough when it isn't freezing your PC, but quickly gets boring. I was really looking forward to it, but, after this sham, I'll probably never anticipate a decent game ever again. They butchered it. There is 0% stealth element anymore. It's basicaly: Rainbow-Six-Wanted-(weapons of fate)-Cell(ish). Short SP, quickly tiring Co-op. I can't be bothered writing any more about it.

"An Awesome Game!"

Get ready for Sam Fisher as you've never seen him before!

This time around, Sam, now divorced from Third Echelon, is given an opportunity to investigate the hit-and-run death of his daughter, Sarah. But, true to form, it's not as straight forward as it seems and, as a result, Splinter Cell: Conviction is a much darker, grittier story than any of its predecessors.

The graphics are every bit as good as any of the previous Games. The developers have added a few nice touches, as in the way the screen changes from colour to black-and-white as Sam moves into the shadows, to show that he is hidden from his enemies. Another one is the mission goals been projected onto walls while, on other walls you see flashes from the past projected in grainy black-and-white film. Little touches like this show the thought that has gone into the design of the game.

The gameplay is a lot more brutal than fans of Splinter Cell are used to. Sam is now able to use items in the environment to interrogate enemies (which allows for a lot of fun in the men's room!) and one touch I particularly like is the “mark and execute” function. This allows for the quick kill of up to four enemies at once. However, don't think that this makes the game too easy – this function needs to be earned and then can only be used once, before you have to earn it again.

While the Single Player game is not overly long, it has great replay value, as there are so many ways to go through each section. And, once the game is over, there are also short Single Player campaigns to keep you occupied for a few more hours. A multiplayer mode is also included for those who like playing online.

I know there has been a lot of disquiet about the DRM limitation in the programming, which requires you to have a permanent internet connection in order to be able to play even the Single Player mode. In theory, if you lose your internet connection, then you are kicked out of the game. However, I have played Splinter Cell: Conviction through three times, as well as the very excellent Assassin's Creed 2 (also with DRM) and I have yet to find a problem with it.

All-in-all, Splinter Cell: Conviction is an excellent game and one that I highly recommend.

"Great addition to the splinter cell series"

Single Player can be completed in 2 days on normal, Game play good but focused on the kill not the silent sneaking shadow to shadow picking targets that slow your progress through the level (pretty much have to kill everything). Co-op action is excellent but you must have voice chat because some moves may take only a second to do. Overall i enjoyed the game the add-on parts are good, I hope they support it with new maps and other goodies.

"Play How You Wish"
4 stars"

I noticed some people complaining that stealth is absent in this game. This is a massive lie, the entire game except one 2 minute escape scene can be played in stealth, the game engine is designed for stealth and if you like stealth games, you'll like Splinter Cell Conviction, and if you don't like stealth games, you'll still like Splinter Cell Conviction because you can play this game how you like, stealthy or guns blazing. But notice how I say “like” and not “love”. The story is short, real short. No longer that 6 hours, and that's on realistic difficulty. There is a co-op campaign separate from the main story acting like a prologue and a multiplayer that I felt was a bit simple given the premise, but good none the less. Factor in mind I have not played previous Splinter Cell games, but this has definitely got me interested in the franchise. There are many cool and completely unique features to this game which makes it like no other, the graphics are superb too, if a little demanding, but a very disappointingly short story takes away the fifth star from this game, but if you can get past this, it's truly excellent.
