Description

Toss of the Coin: Choosing My Gay Destiny recounts Rob's journey through life, from shy, perfect boy to audacious risk-taker. He travels from the blue-collar world of Chicago into the gay paradise of San Francisco, one of the most dynamic scenes of the late twentieth century. There are adventures of all kinds and many decisions to be made. Rob hits the jackpot when he meets Denis and they begin a six-decade life together. On a whim and a prayer, Rob says yes to a proposal that thrusts him into the high-power world of real estate. The bubble bursts and Rob becomes sick with HIV. He examines and changes his lifestyle, rebuilding his health and confidence. Toss of the Coin is more than a historical memoir. It is a passionate, no-holds look at Rob's roots and revelries in Chicago, San Francisco and Palm Springs, and his coin tosses along the way.

Author Biography:

Rob Tackes was a shy, gay youth exploring Chicago in the 1940s and '50s. He and his partner, Denis, moved to San Francisco in 1970 at the start of the gay liberation revolution.
