Similar columns, placed before the houses that are pledged, in like manner make them known to every one, and the lender need be under no fear that he should be injured by any secret contracts, The 'possessor of a field may not dig a well, or build a house or wall in it, except at a certain distance prescribed by law, from the field of his. Neighbour: neither i's'he permitted to turn the waters which descend from the hills thdt may surround his land over his neighbour's ground; but he may turn them into the public road, (a) and the proprietors of the adjacent fields must defend their lands from them.
