When Prince Harry found himself on a flight back to the UK from a combat zone in Afghanistan, he caught glimpses of some severely wounded soldiers sharing his flight. On returning to the UK, he discovered many battered and broken men and women trying to find a way back to something more than what fate had given them. They needed a catalyst for the struggle, and they found it in sports, in competition, all they needed was a theatre in which to shine. This became the Invictus Games. In this book, Boris Starling has told the story of how these games came in to being, and how the wounded, injured and ill found their way from a place of horror and shade to a place of shining light, where they are now a beacon to those who also need to recover, but cannot seem to find where to take the first step.
