A remarkable account of World War 2, from the declaration through to the rescues at Dunkirk and the London Blitz, with devastating accuracy and observation of how three young people dealt with the serious threat of invasion. The trials and tribulations, fears and apprehensions, are woven through the phases of warfare with outstanding accuracy, thus bringing the reader into the thick of the action.
Lawrie Edward Gartside was born in 1943, the younger son of an engineering draughtsman. The family moved from Manchester to the Cheshire coast in 1952, where the author was educated at the local secondary schools. He qualified as a teacher from Nottingham College in 1965 and taught in Wallasey Primary School for almost thirty years. He developed a love of the novels of the Brontes and eventually took early retirement in order to devote himself to writing novels, especially those of an historical and romantic genre. The author loves classical music, reading and Impressionist art.
