Compete to construct the powerful Mediterranean fortress city of Valletta.
A Proud City
The year is 1566. The Order of Malta has placed the first stone of what will
become the city of Valletta. The sound of masons and carpenters hard at work
mingles with the din of merchants peddling their wares in the marketplace. In
Valletta, players enlist the aid of these builders, craftsmen, and
businesspeople to construct the future capital of Malta. Gather raw materials
from lumberjacks, stonecutters, merchants, and others and then hire builders to
convert these resources into the capital's magnificent bastions and baroque
buildings. Complete building projects to score points and gain new cards to use
in future turns. Hire the help you need, manage your resources, and leave your
mark on the city!
Meet Historical Figures
Craftsmen and merchants aren’t the only people you’ll meet as your projects
progress. Jean Parisot de Valette, the man who commissioned the construction of
Valletta, also patrols the streets as building inspector. If he stops at one of
your sites, you can fire workers by discarding them from your hand or hire new
ones by drawing cards from the supply. The game reaches its final phases when de
Valette reaches the end of his patrol, so make sure to wrap up your projects
quickly! Ingratiate yourself with the elite and call upon additional historical
figures to help you score points. Architect Francesco Laparelli can convert
excess goods to points, while Emperor Charles V scores you one point for each
blue building you’ve constructed. Wait for the perfect time to play these
cards, maximize your points, and become the greatest builder Valletta has
ever seen!
