Description

With over 80 routes, this handy guidebook by an expert author offers walkers many opportunities to explore the ridges, plateaus, glens and woodland of highland Perthshire. The area covered here relates to the old county boundary and is bound by the Dalwhinnie to the north, Crieff and Dunkeld to the south east and stretching to Bridge of Orchy in the west. The long grass slopes and peaty cols provide a wealth of walking opportunitites, on heather and pebble-strewn plateaux and rounded ridges. And in March and April the soggy grass becomes crisp snow, the boggy cols freeze over and Ben Lawers and Meall nan Tarmachan look all Alpine along the skyline. The graded routes described here include all 42 Munros in the area as well as 22 selected Corbetts, 15 smaller summits and the historic Atholl passes of Gaick and Minigaig - all within easy reach of Perth. Routes are grouped into ten geographical areas: Comrie and Crieff, Killin and Glen Lochay, Glen Lyon, Bridge of Orchy, Perth and Dunkeld, Aberfeldy, Tummel and Loch Rannoch, Rannoch Moor, Pitlochry and Blair Atholl and Drumochter. A combination of 1:50,000 and 1:100,000 mapping is included as appropriate along with the author's unforgettable photographs.
