Games Workshop have completely overhauled their game and designed something much closer to what the fan base have been asking for for years. Newly released editions were often cross compatible with previous edition books, how ever this is a complete new slate and makes all non 8th edition books redundant. Every miniature has a new rules and the rules for the miniatures have been consolidated into 4 books called Index: Volumes, you will need at least 1 of the Index books if you want to further develop one of the Army in the box into a larger force. If you were ever thinking of jumping into 40k now would be the time as the whole system will be quite new to veterans and new players alike.
