I made the decision to sit down and play the trilogy back to back. I found replaying the original WATCH_DOGS for the first time since launch far less cringy and had a good time playing it differently to how I first experienced it. I then played Watch Dogs 2 for the first time. A game I've had since launch yet never played. This was a mistake. Watch Dogs 2 is AMAZING! The game plays so different to the first one. Everything is faster, the gunplay, vehicles and hacking all feel so different and yet it all blends together perfectly with a compelling story and impeccable characters and writing… The comes Legion which honestly feels like a sequel to the original Watch Dogs rather than a third installment. Everything from the camera, controls, movement and gunplay all resemble the original. Slower, more methodical (at least tried to be). Honestly the entire game rests on it's one big idea: the concept of playing as any NPC. The story isn't compelling at all due to the nature of various factions all have basic narratives rather than a focused antagonist OR a central defined character to follow. The story is a huge letdown from WD2 and even lacks the emotional attachment to Aiden in WD1. If not for the robot A.I. Companion there would be no reason to pay attention to the campaign. Missions are extremely repetitive. While main missions offer the odd one off experience, the lack of quality side objectives suck. And given that every unlockable NPC requires you to complete a task for them you will be seeing the exact same 2 or 3 buildings ALOT. Not to mention you'll run out of different voice actors very quickly. The whole experience feels rushed with multiplayer being unavailable at launch and then delayed by almost half a year. At the end of the day it's another open world game to switch off your brain and clear off a map of objectives. Fun enough once you find your rhythm. Although given that the game relies on you having to gather a laundry list of playable NPCs with different skills you always feel like every one of them is underpowered. Like instead of learning new skills, leveling up abilities and collecting new weapons, you're just swapping to a character with a drone, swap to one with a gun. Oops, didn't bring the cloak ability- Too bad.
