A lifelong artist and storyteller, Stevens creates imaginative portraits of sea creatures with funny names, like the umbrella crab and the elephant seal. Just so you don't get stuck too deep in the weird and wonderful, after we laugh, we'll learn the scientific names and see what each creature really looks like.

Author Biography:

Dave has enjoyed a life filled with creative pursuits. From a very young age he made art, usually cartoons, and later he was able to studying art at college and university. When he graduated from the university he spent many years teaching art in high schools but only after he started his career in a medium-maximum penitentiary. Dave did two years teaching at Matsqui Penitentiary and then escaped to teach high school students. After his teaching career Dave graduated from high school to create art full time. He paints, makes prints, sculpts, and illustrates books. When his five children were younger, Dave often made up stories that he told at bedtime. He also illustrated some of these to be shared. Recently Diane, his writer-wife, suggested an alphabet book based on sea creatures of the west coast of Canada and Weirdly Wonderful A to Z is the result. Dave is a former rugby and basketball player and was a competitive swimmer in his youth. Sports are something that he loved to do, but he always made art. Dave loves to explore the roadways of life in front of him and he does not consider ending one career anything other then changing lanes. Dave has enjoyed a life filled with creative pursuits.
