Description

The West chronicles the remarkable history of one of the most extraordinary landscapes on earth from the times of earliest Native Americans, and continuing into the 20th Century.

Fight No More Forever (1874- 1877)
In 1874-1877 only a few groups still resisted America's westward push. On the Great Plains, Sitting Bull followed his mystical visions and urged his Lakota people to fight rather than surrender the sacred Black Hills and their Traditional way of life.

The Geography Of Hope (1877- 1887)
With Indians effectively confined to reservations, some 4.5 million new settlers arrived to stake a claim to the future. Homesteaders proudly built homes of prairie sod, then battled drought and hard times to keep them.

One Sky Above Us (1887- 1914)
By the turn of the century, America was a nation transformed. Once tiny mining towns like Montana were now full-fledged cities. In many ways the West was still what it had always been that is a landscape of imagination, hope, dreams, aspirations, conflict and infinite possibility.
