Description

What I Meant to Do provides children with a mechanism to safely explore common types of unintended outcomes with their caregivers. When a child shares his or her interpretation of the characters' intentions and feelings, this can help caregivers to identify the child's own response to accidental outcomes. Discussing next steps and alternatives helps the child begin exploring cause-and-effect relationships among desires, behaviors, and outcomes. Talking about potential adult responses allows safe dialogue that can encourage both children and adults to rationalize and contextualize the responses they experience in daily life.
