Fi (short for Fiona) Mulligan is a frazzled but fashion-conscious single mom of two young children. Not an easy life in the mid-1980's economic climate. Lexie and Michael are intelligent, well-adjusted children, all things considered. Currently, they all are living in Colorado many miles from their midwestern hometown of Flint Michigan. Fi's husband is no longer in the picture, leaving Fi to make a difficult decision regarding their living situation. Desperate to have a better job to support herself and the children after the downturn of the economy in Flint, Fi called life-long friends who had moved to Boulder several years ago. They were open to hosting Fi and the children while Fi sought employment. Fi drove out to Colorado from Michigan with her two small children, clothes and some books. And of course, the shoes. She returned to Michigan after finding a house to live in. She got all of their belongings but was forced to leave their two beloved dogs, large Bouvier des Flanders, behind. As this story begins, it has been almost a year since the epic move to Colorado. Dee currently holds down two jobs; one at a cosmetology school during the day four days a week. The other as the 'part time-some weeknights-most weekends' receptionist at a very chic private mental hospital not far from where she lives. In spite of the two jobs, Fi is still struggling to make ends meet. With her children always in the forefront of her mind, Fi has sought for other employment, but the economic climate in the entire country had become strained. Even with these and other challenges in her life, Fi faces them with grace, poise, humor and coffee (always the coffee), as a former fashion model who loves living in "STYLE" in Colorado. Fi meets a somewhat older man where she works and in spite of their age difference, they find they have similar interests and become attracted to each other. Unknown to Fi is Paul's background. During a turn of events in Fi's life where Paul steps in to save the day, Fi realizes this man is exactly what she needs. Many incredible things happen; a ball, a challenge to run for Senate, car reposessions and even a run in with a man who feels Fi is his 'soulmate' in spite of the fact he creeps her out. Eventually it all works out and Fi and Paul plan a wedding. However, the Drama Llama Mama strikes again and they not only experience a harrowing hospital experience, but a kidnapping as well...on their wedding day!! The fun and intrigue never stop.
