When Focused Fire! is a mix of reality and fiction. It is a novel about unfulfilled desires like how living in the country of your forefathers is not always possible or how not being able to bear children is the greatest hazard of life. Like death, there is one difference sometimes, dying is a democratic decision. The character Gustaaf Lilipaly represents the young Molucans in the Netherlands, Jos Verton the special Assistance Unit of the Armed Forces (BBEK) and Arjan de Groot the administrative authorities in the seventies. Their lives touched each other in a service accident that happened to Gustaaf Lilipaly in 1969. Kees (Cornelis) Kommer was born in 1939. He graduated from college at the age of twenty and worked for an agricultural entrepreneur. In 1959, he was conscripted for service in the Royal Military Police but shortly after, he stepped into professional service. There, he performed more than fifteen functions, including that of an officer in the BBEK. In 1993, he became a major-school commander of military police conscripts. Now, he is armed with superannuation."
