Four years in the Navy and four years of college do not prepare a person for an insurance career. However, in the early sixties, Robert Bongardt was newly married and desperate to find a job. He and his wife were expecting their first child. A return to an advertising position, which he preferred, was not available. An opportunity to become an insurance underwriter beckoned. What followed was a variety of underwriting positions with several insurance companies over the next thirty-five years. He traveled with his wife and children from coast to coast. They lived in five different states. The author's mobility was almost as important as doing a good job in commercial insurance.
