The acting is superb, as are the costumes and attention to detail. The art deco features in the main house are beautiful. The subject matter is very dark, yet unfortunately, believable.

An emotional journey. Very thought provoking.
I loved this movie and there are many layers to it. It is captivating and with an excellent twist.
A compelling movie about racism and the desire to be something you're not
Highly recommended
Liked the movie very complex situation n in those days women went to many length to cover those secrets, but the twist at end was mind blowing –
What a fantastic movie! There are some movies that question your social conscience and this is one of them. Imagine thinking it necessary to bleach your daughters skin white to give her the opportunity to succeed in a white mans (pakeha) world- Is that really the way it was in New Zealand- I think It was, but is it still--
Amazing eye opening movie. Had me hooked from beginning to end.
Another very fine movie made in New Zealand about their people and culture. Fabulous acting by all, but Whirimako Black really stood out as the tribal Medicine Woman. This is a first class movie with an amazing twist near the end of the movie. (One you would never guess) Poetic Justice at it's best in the final moments of this film gives a bitter sweet ending. A must see for all avid movie goers.
Must watch
Bit slow through the middle but good story and acting.
Really enjoyed the movie, had a twist I didn't expect
Loved every minute of it. The acting is great. The story is extremely powerful and so heartfelt. Found myself with a few tears. Totally recommend.
A bit slow but still enjoyable. Always love NZ movies.
