According to the latest report the weather during the early part of the present month has been cold and the crop has suffered from frost. A deficiency in rainfall was also reported. Prices continued firm.in the leading flaxseed markets. No. 1 flaxseed at Minneapolis averaged pl.99 per bushel for the second week in January come pared With a like quotation for the second week in December. However, flax seed prices at Winnipeg advanced from an average of sl.41 per bushel for No. 1 C. W. During the first week in December to for the first week in January. Nearby futures in Buenos Aires did not Show any material difference from.last month. The average price for the second week of the present month was per bushel compared with a similar price for the second week of December. The margin of the hnneapolis price over prices at Winnipeg averaged 54 cents for the first week in January. For the same week the spread between Nhnneapolis and Buenos Aires prices was 99 cents. For the month of December the average price of No. 1 flaxseed at Minneapolis was per bushel compared With for the same month in 1933 and for November 1934. The average price per bushel for No. 1 C. W. At Xinnipeg for last month was against the same average for December last year and for November 1934. Although tne price of La Plata flaxseed at Hull, England averaged the same for December 1934 as during the previous month, al.l6 per bushel, the price of Calcutta flaxseed advanced sharply from al.40 per bushel, the average for November, to for December. The price of Bold Bombay at Bombay showed a similar trend, following the official estimate, advancing from the avera 0 price per bushel for November, to the average for December 1934.
