The last of a long line of distinguished Russian aristocrats, Mravinsky emerges from 20th century musical history as Russia's noble conductor. In addition to presenting a valuable historical perspective, this biography examines the artistic environment of early 20th Century Soviet Union, and the leading figures in this environment.

Author Biography:

Gregor Tassie has written numerous articles on music and performance in magazines such as The Gramophone, Musical Opinion, and Classical Record Collector, has worked on research projects for the BBC and documentary films, and has contributed notes for CD programs. Mr. Tassie presently teaches in Glasgow.
