Author Biography:

Anya Hurley is a writer, campaigner for mental health awareness, and the creator of The Path to Positive Self-Awareness(TM). Born in Bristol, Anya spent most of her teenage years with her head buried in her books. After finishing an undergraduate in Business, Anya moved to London. This is where she rose through the corporate ranks and became a senior director for an international IT firm. Anya was awarded a Fellowship at the Institute of Leadership and Management for her contribution to business leadership. After receiving this recognition, Anya missed academia and decided to complete a master's degree in International Relations at Bristol University. Completing her master's re-ignited Anya's love of reading and inspired her to begin researching her Ph.D. in International Politics. Anya is a trauma survivor who suffers from PTSD, depression, anxiety, eating, and sleeping disorders. Her mental ill-health led her to withdraw from her research, although she still hopes that she'll complete her Ph.D. one day. Anya created The Path to Positive Self-Awareness to bypass the excessive waiting times for therapy that trauma victims and other sufferers of mental ill-health often face. She knew from her own mental ill-health experiences that waiting for therapy puts sufferer's lives at risk. The Path to Positive Self-Awareness is a holistic 40-step program designed to improve all aspects of a person's mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Anya hopes to give people the tools to fight mental ill-health and help them regain control of their lives. Anya is a single parent of three children and holds joint Irish and British Citizenship. Anya is also a qualified personal trainer and nutritionist. She has many interests including the arts, ballet, opera, music, supporting Ireland Rugby, reading political, philosophical, motivational non-fiction, and thriller fiction. Anya also enjoys long walks, skiing, scuba diving, architecture, exploring cities, and experiencing different cultures. Through her work, Anya supports a number of charities, which have all played an important role in her life: The Benjamin Pritchard Foundation - #bemoreben The charity aims to provide a reliable informal support network for parents and families who have lost a child. They offer ongoing services such as counselling and complementary therapies to help families cope with their loss. They also offer support to families who have a terminally ill child. Kinergy Kinergy is a specialist counselling agency that supports survivors of sexual abuse, sexual violence, or rape. They aim to provide a safe, accepting, and a supportive environment for survivors. This gives the survivors a chance to come to terms with the past, enjoy the present, and look forward to the future. The Southmead Project: Art of Survivors Program The Southmead Project was founded in 1994 by Mike Peirce and aims to support people that have experienced abuse. In 2019 The Southmead Project ran the Art of Survivors Program. This is an art workshop with survivors of abuse, offering them the ability to express themselves through activities such as painting, sculpture, and poetry using creativity to help support their healing process. NHS Charities Together A charity supporting NHS workers and patients in the UK.
