10 Great Gadget Gifts for Dad!

By Andi

Father's Day is just around the corner, so it's time to start thinking about what to get him that says “Thanks”.

We're yet to meet a dad on Earth that doesn't love a gadget in one form or another, so we figured a pick of some of favourite gadgets would be a great place for you to start.

1) Rapoo Wireless Mechanical Backlit Keyboard

It doesn't matter if your dad's an avid gamer, strict businessman or somewhere in between. This keyboard is a perfect answer to any scenario.

Dad can work and play day and night, thanks to radiant backlit keys. And the mechanical springs under each key makes using this keyboard a real delight thanks to the immediate response to his every keystroke.

It's wireless too, so whether it's for the office, the den or the living room, there's really no limit to where he can use it (except the pool – don't let him use it in the pool.)

2) Proximo Key Fob Bluetooth Tracker

This one may be playing towards a stereotype, but we're sure everyone loses their keys… not just dads. Still, he'll be glad to know he won't have to worry about where he left them ever again, thanks to the Proximo.

All he has to do is grab his smartphone and play a fun game of colder/warmer!

Of course, that's not all it's good for. The Proximo has a number of other great security features that will alert him as soon as his phone and keys get too far away from each other to ensure he's in total control of his phone and who's using it.

3) Griffin HELO TC Assault

This one's a little less practical, but way too much fun to not have on this list, and a perfect gift for dad.

Let him swoop through the skies and rain fire down on his enemies with the Griffin Assault Helicopter. Controlled via smartphone, all dad has to do is plug the receiver into the headphone jack of his phone and he can take control of this bad boy.

(You kids aren't the only ones that get cool toys y'know…)

4) Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation DUO

If your dad's a guy who's on the go, this is perfect for him. The Powerstation DUO has enough juice in it to charge up any two devices via USB anywhere, anytime.

It may be small, but don't be fooled – packing a 6000mAh battery, this little guy will charge even the thirstiest of devices, including all generations of iPad. You're not limited to smartphones and tablets either. If it charges off a USB cable, the Powerstation DUO will charge it!

Whether your dad's the kind of guy who likes camping and fishing trips, or is just on his phone 24/7 and can't stand the battery dying halfway through the day… the Powerstation will keep him going!

5) mbeat USB Turntable and Cassette to Digital Recorder

Does your dad need to be pulled into the 21st Century? Does he still have stacks of vinyl records collecting dust?

“Oh but they just sound better!” he says…

Well now he can have the best of both worlds. All the incredible sound and warmth of the analogue age combined with the portability and versatility of the digital. The mbeat Digital Recorder will capture all the personality of his records (and cassette tapes) and convert them to an mp3 on his computer.

Sure beats taking a turntable with him on his daily commute.

6) Twelve South BookBook Case for iPad Mini

This next gift idea is a crafty one. It'll turn your father as you know him into a distinguished individual, who contemplates deep theories and philosophies.

Ok, not really.

But it will let him keep his iPad in a beautiful leather bound case that resembles the kind of book one of those types of people would read. Now he can play all his favourite games and apps while looking like the next Freud.

Throw in a high backed chair, a pipe and a smoking jacket and your dad will be the ultimate Sir!

7) Philips Citiscape Jetts

First of all, these things look great. Just a really nice looking pair of earphones. Secondly, they sound fantastic! It's crazy that these little drivers (9mm) can deliver such a crisp sound and deep bass.

We're sure your dad has enough frustration in his life as it is, so the fact that these feature a flat cable design means he won't have to mess around with tangled cables.

The Citiscape Jetts even come with different sized plugs, so they'll fit your dad no matter what. Even if he is already sprouting the old man ear hair…

8) Logitech Harmony Touch Universal Remote

This one is for all the kids out there that have to endure the agony of watching your father struggle with the entertainment setup every time he wants to watch a movie.

It's call the Harmony Touch for a reason, because it's intuitive, easy to setup and even has its own stand so he won't have to search under every couch cushion for it all the time. Swapping out the batteries is a thing of the past as well, since the cradle recharges the remote when he's not using it.

This isn't just a gift for your dad. This is a gift for you. And your sanity.

9) Braven 570 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

The Braven 570 is a deceptive little thing. Not only does it offer portable sound for any occasion, but it has a built in power bank, so if his device is running low your dad can plug it in and keep the music going.

Maybe blue isn't his colour? No problem, the Braven 570 is available in heaps of awesome colours (even purple!)

We understand that this will more than likely subject you to even more exposure to your dad's questionable taste in music, but if you're going to be forced to listen to it, it might as well be through a good speaker, no?

10) Satzuma USB Plasma Orb

The fact that you've made it all the way down to number 10 on this list means 1 of 2 things… You're either a fastidious reader, or you're just not sold on anything else on this list. If that's the case then number 10 is for you. It's an absolute winner.

No one can say no to a USB Plasma Orb!

No batteries required or software to install, just plug it in and bask in its plasma goodness.

Perfect for home or at work, the USB Plasma Orb will keep your dad occupied for hours, offering a soothing glow and countless distractions.

If none of these strike you as an awesome gift for your dad, be sure to swing by the Mighty Electronics Jungle right here at Mighty Ape.

And if you still can't find anything you think he'd like then just get him socks.

And don't forget…
Father's Day is September 7.
