I actually think this book does more harm than good for queer readers, especially trans. Not only is the narrative a cis white male but the attitude he has towards Sage breaks my heart. Treating her like an experiment and a monster until she feels so isolated and alone that she feels she needs to detransition. The ambiguous ending just left me so disappointed and so broken and pained for Sage. How could someone destroy this amazingly unique character. I’m all for a good drama book but the writing seemed to be more of an insult than a celebration towards transgender people.
