Excellent! Film-maker, Ken Branagh, gets to tell the story of an important and sometimes frightening part of his life, during the ‘Troubles’ in Northern Ireland.

I found the movie interesting on how things were in Belfast as I had family from there. Times were not easy for raising families.

Description

Belfast

A young boy and his working class family experience the tumultuous late 1960s. Buddy is a young boy on the cusp of adolescence, whose life is filled with familial love, childhood hijinks, and a blossoming romance. Yet, with his beloved hometown caught up in increasing turmoil, his family faces a momentous choice: hope the conflict will pass or leave everything they know behind for a new life.

Critic Reviews:

  • " As the closing titles state, Branagh set out to tell a story of the people who left, the people who stayed, and the ones who were lost. In that sense, it is a triumph. " – James Luxford (City AM)
  • " Branagh's approach is both sentimental and conventional. Its also the proper angle. " – Matt Brunson (Film Frenzy)
  • " Branagh brings it all in at just over an hour and a half, a welcome respite from awards season bloat. " – Rubén Rosario (MiamiArtZine)
