The latest in a 50-year collaboration between two bona-fide legends. Recorded in Sao Paulo with an all-star group of Brazilian jazz masters. Featuring Ivan Linz, Grégoire Maret, Celso Fonseca, and Chico Pinheiro.
Together and apart, as solo stars and sidemen, Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin have amassed awards, acclaim, and audiences across generations and genres. Their latest collaboration has them returning not just to the music of Brazil, but to the country itself.
In some ways, BRASIL is the long-awaited follow-up to the duo’s Grammy-winner, Harlequin. For that album, Grusin and Ritenour brought the cream of Brazil’s jazz scene to LA to create a fresh fusion of contemporary American and Brazilian jazz. This time, Ritenour and Grusin went straight to the source, recording in Sao Paulo and hand-picking a group of the finest legends and young-guns in the Brazilian jazz scene.
The result is an exquisitely crafted album that continues a 50-year conversation between two masters. Like so much of their work, BRASIL will resonate far beyond their loyal base of fans, with its laid-back tropical grooves and joyous interplay appealing equally to traditional aficionados and casual listeners alike.
