Description

This is a unique novel in that each of the thirty-two pieces used in the game of chess are represented by different countries. The story is set in action when Israel mobilizes and sends new forces to the Golan Heights. This action in turn sets in motion diplomatic and military moves by other countries. The tensions rise as the world is afraid that another Middle East conflict may drag in other nations and even lead to a global war. The White Team strategy and tactics are overseen in Washington, D.C. and the Black Team's in Moscow. The whole book is based from the moves made from an actual chess game that actually took place during a world chess championship. This idea of using a chess match to display military and diplomatic moves on the world stage by nations is not as strange as one would surmise. The game of chess is actually one of strategy and tactics. Tactics are represented by moves and are made to support the strategy. The genius of chess is to counter your opponent's moves, while at the same time understanding the strategic thinking beyond the tactical moves, all while pursuing your own tactical and strategic moves at the same time. This is exactly what nation states do in trying to negotiate and interact with each other, whether diplomatically or militarily. For lovers of chess who read this story, the moves made in this story are the identical moves made in a past World Chess Championship game. It is recommended to the reader that after a move is made by either White or Black, and before reading onward, take it upon yourself to visualize the next move. Also, it is highly recommended to have a world atlas on-hand while reading this novel. By doing so it should only enhance your enjoyment of this book beyond just the story.
