Description

Why did the war in Bosnia Herzegovina continue for over three years? The killings, rape, and ethnic cleansing was allowed to go on in the heartland of Europe with lead world powers apparently helpless. The truth behind the war as the book invites you on a remarkable journey alongside Salim, a man who has experienced the realities of war firsthand. Beginning with his service in the Pakistan Army and the real events of the Naggi Battle fought on December 27th, 1971, between the Indian Army and the Pakistan Army well after the ceasefire, Salim takes you through a captivating narrative that reveals the true nature of conflicts. He goes on to discuss the birth of a new nation, Bangladesh, the harsh transitions, life with the newly formed Bangladesh army, the turmoil, mutinies, and killings. The book also covers his time in Myanmar where he spent three years and he talks about the seeds of the current Rohingya crisis.

Author Biography:

It is Salim's time as a UN Peace Keeping mission commander in Bihac during the Bosnia Herzegovina conflict that forms the heart of this book. Salim discusses night infiltration flights, trade with dead bodies, and the chilling proximity of Bihac to becoming another Srebrenica massacre. With honesty and authenticity, he recounts the challenges he faced in leading soldiers who were unprepared for the harsh European winter and how they were treated as unequal for being from a third world country. Despite such adversity, the soldiers remained defiant and displayed resilience for duty, their mission, and their country. Salim has interviewed with Dean Murphy, published in La Times in 1995, and interviewed on BBC TB, Sky TV, and on the Peter Jennings Show broadcasted in the USA on ABC TV on April, 25th 1995.
