I struggled with this book… Struggled to put it down and do my homework. Even with homework breaks, I still managed to plow through it in one day.
I especially love that there was a cross over of characters from Kristen's House of Comarre` series, though unfortunately I don't think I've quite read the last book and may have spoiled it a little bit for myself.
Overall this is a solid good easy read. I found it interesting that my favourite character wasn't the leading lady like normal, I'm all about girl power and what not, but instead the leading male. Augustine has all the characteristics you want in your male role and to make him even more appealing hes tough as nails with a dark past.
When you have a mixture of othernatural creatures you know that a book has got to be interesting, because lets face it, they never seem to get a long with each other for very long. Makes for excellent reading and this story is no different.
The Guardianship of New Orleans is top job, but for some reason whoever takes it ends up very dead and nobody seems to stay in power for very long. Things aren't looking so hot for Augustine when he is forced to take the job or face going to the nastiest fae prison you can ever imagine. That combined with the female lead, Harlow, who is a top notch computer whizz and currently in a lot of trouble with the law for hacking in the a companies secret files. Though its not her fault, she was set up. When Augustine and Harlow meet you know things are just getting started.
This book is an excellent start to the series, you can see that it has the potential to go to excellent places and I can almost taste the ‘shitstorm’ that is bound to come Augustine's way in the next book. I'll be waiting eagerly and excitedly for book number 2!!!
