Description

All too often the experience of those who receive family therapy is neglected in family therapy theorizing and literature; this in turn affects practice. The authors of this book believe that an over-emphasis on general systems theory within the family therapy movement gives practice an essentially mechanistic underpinning which loses sight of the human nature of the undertaking. As a result, the recipients of therapy effectively become invisible. With a practical emphasis, this book challenges all professionals working with families and children to reassess their ways of thinking and working.

Author Biography:

Clinical tutor to the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course and co-director of the Diploma Course in Family and Marital Therapy at the University of Exeter. He is based at the Department of Clinical and Community Psychology, Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Wonford, where he works as a family therapist.
