Description

Mastering French (A systematic guide for the Anglophone learner) is an advanced study for those who are done with the beginner's edition: Beginning French Language. It is also ideal for individuals, schools and colleges. It envelops important topics on grammar, reading (by using the audiovisual), comprehension passages as well as exercises to help the learner become a better speaker and writer of the French language. There was a time when the cry in the Nigerian educational circle was the dearth of manuals and textbooks written by Nigerian scholars. The market was dominated by books written by foreigners. Today things are different as scholars in various fields write and publish books for the Nigerian market. The beauty of this development is the fact that such books published by our scholars take into account our environment, culture and values. Thus, our learners can identify themselves with the socio-cultural content of these books. The book in your hand is the second in series of textbooks for the teaching and learning of French Language in Nigeria. It represents the author's contribution to the propagation of French Language in Nigeria, especially at the Secondary and the Tertiary levels. Consequently, I envisage with certitude that it would create a niche for itself in the ever-expanding market of manuals and textbooks in French language. Apart from the main lessons, the book also pays particular attention to exercises (with workbook at the end of the book). The objective is to help learners assess themselves. For this purposes, the corrections to these exercises are included in form of CORRIGÉS towards the end of the book. Furthermore, the author's teach-yourself approach is laudable. It creates an ambiance of adventure and excitement. One yearns to learn French when it dawns on him that it is as simple as the author has made it. In other words, this book allows you to teach yourself. I highly recommend it, as it is suitable for undergraduates, secondary school students, bankers, journalists, business executives, lawyers, other professionals as well as debutants.
