After participating in a martial arts exercise at school, Ming's parents takehim on a trip to this grand temple, with a rich history dating back over 1,500years. Located in the central Henan Province, The Shaolin Temple is situated inthe forests of Shaoshi Mountain, one of the seven mountains that comprisesacred Mount Song. During his visit, Ming observes monks practicing kung fu at the Warrior MonksSchool, and even joins in to learn some martial arts skills. He also accidentallyenters an ancient stone cave and meets a monk who turns out to beBodhidharma, according to legend, the founder of Zen Buddhism. Bodhidharmatakes Ming to the mountain and tells him the story of how the Shaolin Templebecame the birthplace, not only of kung fu, but of Zen Buddhism.
