Author Biography:

Adjunct Associate Professor Derrick Aw Chen Wee is a dermatologist and physician in Sengkang General Hospital (SKH). Prior to joining the Singhealth cluster, he was the head of dermatology division in the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore. As a senior consultant, his subspecialty interests are acne, psoriasis, eczema, urticaria, lasers for medical and cosmetic uses, minimally-invasive aesthetic procedures, cosmeceuticals and hospital dermatology. As the Clinical Education Lead for Medical and Associate Dean in SKH, he overseas undergraduate medical training of students from the three medical schools in Singapore. He is also the undergraduate education director in Singhealth Medicine Academic Medicine Programme. In Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (YLLSoM), he is the co-chair of the Collaborative Learning Cases committee, a student house Master mentor, and Associate with the Centre for Medical Education. In contributing to postgraduate education, he sits in the Resident Advisory Committee for dermatology, the Singhealth Performance Review Subcommittee of SKGH, and the Singhealth Medicine Academic Clinical Programme (ACP) Education Oversight Committee. With numerous teaching and achievement awards to his record, he has delivered more than 300 local and international lectures to medical students and residents, dermatologists, family physicians and other clinicians, pharmacists and the public. He played an instrumental role in training the first advanced practice nurse in dermatology in Singapore as well as co-producing several nurse-led clinic initiatives in NUH. He has written four books on clinical medicine (Look and Proceed, Armour 2002), clinical dermatology (Dermatology Picture MCQs, Armour 2005) and self-assessment in internal medicine (Modified Essay Questions for Medicine Finals Vol I and II, World Scientific 2012 and 2016). He is a reviewer for several medical and nursing journals, Associate Editor for Journal of Dermatology & Cosmetology and sits in the Editorial board for Journal of Surgical Dermatology. He has participated as principal investigator in phase three clinical trials on urticaria, atopic eczema and psoriasis. His scientific publications exceed 70 and conference papers exceed 80. He now sits in the Faculty of Medical Experts, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. A firm believer in faculty development, he facilitates regular workshops and drives interprofessional education; a key interest of his is the written assessment. Professor Rajasoorya is a passionate believer in the need to educate the next generation of doctors. He has served in various leadership, administrative and clinical roles involving medical education at the hospital, cluster and national level and has been examiner/external/chief examiner for various undergraduate and postgraduate clinical examinations. He chaired the National Medical Undergraduate Curriculum Review Committee which produced and published its report in 2014. This report provided strategic oversight to steer the long-term development of Singapore's undergraduate medical education curriculum with the harmonization of medical education over the three medical schools in Singapore. He is a fervent educator, having received numerous accolades and awards. He was the recipient of the inaugural National Medical Excellence Clinician Educator Award in 2011 for outstanding contribution and exemplary passion for imparting medical knowledge to the next generation of clinicians. He is also the recipient of the Special Recognition Award for being a role model to the graduating medical class for seven consecutive years from 2013-2019 YLL School of Medicine as well as the annual Medical Society (YLL School of Medicine) Outstanding Tutor Award four times between the years 2012-2018. He is also the recipient of the National Distinguished Senior Clinician Award in 2016.
