"Maori as Maori should be remebered, Beautiful and Proud."

Purchased on Mighty Ape

An excellent book that shows Maori and New Zealanders with Maori heritage, fighting not only an enemy far away, but enemies within their own country. Prejudice abound, Maori unity at a courageous level to overcome obstacles at all cost. To save what matters most. Maori.

Excellent language, easy to read, for a history ‘tome’ some laughs some sads, should be in every Nz's home.

So let's look at OUR history warts and all, we will be stronger for it. If these guys paid the price, We ALL need to give true value to what they fought for.

Description

Nga Tama Toa. The Price of Citizenship. C Company 28 (Maori) Battalion 1939-1945.

It was Sir Apirana Ngata’s wish that the history of C Company be written by a person with tribal affiliations to the rohe - from Tarakeha, 20kms east of Opotiki, to Paritu, 30kms south of Gisborne.
Here it is -a huge well researched book, many years in the making and a taonga for the descendants and whanau of the men and boys it commemorates.

Ko Ngati Porou; Te Whanau-a-Apanui; Ngai Tai, Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti; Rongowhakaata; Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki and Ngai Tamanahiri te iwi.

The fascinating story of C Company, Maori Battalion told through personal recollections, eyewitness accounts, numerous anecdotes and fantastic photographs. At times heart-rending, at times heart-warming, this impressive book captures the special 'spirit' of the Maori Battalion - an amazing story that documents the stories of those who were actually there.
