Description

Warning to English Teachers! Don't Read This Book and, please, don't ever assign it to your class to read. Eighth grader Kro Kandle discovers that Ernest Hemingway wrote that there are four things one must do to become a man. Kro takes that blueprint to heart. With Hemingway as his guide, he navigates his odyssey through middle school with an eye keenly targeted on manhood. Writing in an experimental style replete with humor, poetry and an original narrative voice, Eric Arnold captures life in a middle school world surrounded by slugs . . . . running with slugs is for middle schoolers, anyone who works with middle schoolers, anyone who lives with a middle schooler and for anyone who has ever been a middle schooler.

Author Biography:

Eric Arnold is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and is now living in the Boston area although he has remained loyal to Cleveland sports teams. Working as the stock boy in his father's grocery store is one of his earliest informal education memories. He completed his formal undergraduate education at Miami University (Ohio) and his graduate work at Boston University and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Inspired by his experience as a public school educator, Eric has written seventeen children's books including sports fiction, science, biography and humor. He's also written "A Day in the Life" series and books for the Star Wars movies. When Eric is not writing, he's either cartooning, drawing, reading, hiking or traveling. He is always working on his slug-detection radar.
