Description

Safeguarding Children and Schools explains ways in which schools contribute to keeping children safe from harm and promoting their welfare. It follows the Government guidelines Every Child Matters: Change for Children (DfES, 2004), which requires schools to be more proactive and to take responsibility for protecting and safeguarding children. The contributors, who are all experts in the field of child protection, put the task which schools face in the context of relevant research and offer examples of successful implementation. Areas discussed include the roles of local education authority services and schools in child protection, children who abuse other children, children and internet safety, and training school staff to safeguard children. At a time when expectations of the role of schools are evolving, teachers, managers, and social care professionals are anxious for the guidance and support which this book provides. Best Practice in Working with Children Series Edited by Brigid Daniel, Professor in Child Care and Protection, University of Dundee The titles in the Best Practice in Working with Children series are written for the multi-agency professionals working to promote childrena??s welfare and protect them from harm.
