Simon began his writing "career" in Washington, D.C., covering environmental issues while reporting on Congress and the Environmental Protection Agency for 10 years. For 30 years, he has written as a freelancer for Referee magazine, a sports officiating publication, and a basketball officiating newsletter put out by the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials.
