Cozbi A. Cabrera was born in Brooklyn, New York, and now lives in Evanston, IllinoisA former art director in the music industry, she is now a textile artist, dollmaker, painter, and bookmaker. She is the author-illustrator of Me & Mama, which received a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor and a Caldecott Honor and Exquisite, by Suzanne Slade, which received a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor and a Robert Siebert Honor. Her handmade dolls, or "munecas," are collected around the world.
