Description

God created the earth and mankind to rule over it. Not only are the land, vegetation and creatures placed under human oversight, but humanity is to govern itself in this task. And so, there are rulers, rules and those who are ruled. This order is expressed in family, workplace and government relationships. This is the Kingdom of the World. But all is not well in the Kingdom of the World. In addition to this physical kingdom, the Bible describes two spiritual kingdoms-the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Satan. A great conflict between these kingdoms takes place in the Kingdom of the World. In the arena of government, the conflict is called "politics." This book illustrates political roles and responsibilities through the lives of biblical characters, including Joseph, Jonah, Daniel, Esther and Paul, as well as the examples provided by William Wilberforce and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. In addition, the Bible's teaching about justice is examined through the lenses of conscience, religion, love and law. The Kingdom of the World is not a handbook for current political action, but it describes a way of discerning engagement. This path navigates between two errors that have ensnared Christians for centuries-the temptation to equate government with the Kingdom of God, on the one hand, or with the Kingdom of Satan, on the other.
